Le Jeu de Paume accueille jusqu\u2019au 28 mai 2023 une exposition de photographies de Thomas Demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inlassablement, l\u2019artiste interroge nos repr\u00e9sentations. Ses images semblent reproduire le r\u00e9el quand elles n\u2019en sont que des copies \u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8res, des mises en sc\u00e8ne de sculptures en papier et carton. Ce monde \u00e9trange est d\u2019autant plus fragile que les maquettes une fois photographi\u00e9es sont d\u00e9truites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laissez-moi vous pr\u00e9senter trois \u0153uvres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans Kontrollraum \/ Control Room <\/em>(2011), on croit observer la salle de contr\u00f4le paisible d\u2019un quelconque complexe scientifique ou industriel :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sauf que Thomas Demand recr\u00e9e une photographie prise avec le t\u00e9l\u00e9phone portable d\u2019un technicien de la centrale nucl\u00e9aire abandonn\u00e9e de Fukushima. Voil\u00e0 pourquoi les dalles du plafond lumineux pendent dans un \u00e9quilibre instable et moquent notre illusion de contr\u00f4le.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avec Lichtung \/ Clearing <\/em>(2003), l\u2019artiste confectionne 270 000 feuilles d\u2019arbres en papier pour fa\u00e7onner une sc\u00e8ne idyllique :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il illustre ainsi une vision romantique et artificielle de la nature, une utopie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enfin, Hanami<\/em> (2014) fait partie des papiers peints destin\u00e9s \u00e0 offrir une exp\u00e9rience architecturale immersive :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C\u2019est une observation de Sei Sh\u00f4nagon dans ses Notes de chevet<\/em> du XIe<\/sup> si\u00e8cle qui a inspir\u00e9 ce travail : \u00ab Il y avait, au bas de l\u2019escalier, un cerisier haut d\u2019environ dix pieds, couvert de fleurs merveilleuses. [\u2026] En les admirant, je remarquai que les fleurs du cerisier \u00e9taient sans doute artificielles ; mais leurs nuances ne le c\u00e9daient pas \u00e0 celles de v\u00e9ritables corolles. Quelle habilet\u00e9 il avait d\u00fb falloir pour les faire ! Il m\u2019\u00e9tait p\u00e9nible de penser, en regardant ces fleurs, qu\u2019elles seraient fl\u00e9tries s\u2019il venait \u00e0 pleuvoir. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanami<\/a><\/em>, litt\u00e9ralement \u00ab regarder les fleurs \u00bb, propose donc une m\u00e9ditation sur la beaut\u00e9 et la bri\u00e8vet\u00e9 de la vie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
