(Ce voleur d’Eros d\u00e9robait un jour dans une ruche un rayon de miel ; une m\u00e9chante abeille le piqua de son aiguillon et lui blessa le bout de tous les doigts. Et lui, il souffrait, soufflait sur sa main, tr\u00e9pignait et bondissait. Il montra son mal \u00e0 Aphrodite, se plaignant que l’abeille, une si petite b\u00eate, f\u00eet si grandes blessures. Sa m\u00e8re alors se mit \u00e0 rire : \u00ab\u00a0Eh quoi ? dit-elle ; n’es-tu pas comme les abeilles ? Tu es petit, mais quelles blessures tu causes !\u00a0\u00bb)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur cette toile que j\u2019ai pu admirer \u00e0 la National Gallery de Londres une inscription avertit : \u00ab DVM PVER ALVEO[LO] F[VRATUR ME]LLA CUPIDO\/ FURANTI DIGITVM CV[SPIDE] F[IXIT] APIS\/ SIC ETIAM NOBIS BREVIS ET [PERI]TVRA VOLUPTAS\/ QUAM PETIMUS TRI[S]T[I] [M]IXTA DOLORE N[O]CET \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Le jeune Cupidon volait du miel dans une ruche lorsqu’une abeille le piqua au doigt. Il en va de m\u00eame pour nous : le plaisir bref et fugace que nous recherchons se m\u00eale \u00e0 la tristesse et nous fait souffrir.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quittons la Renaissance pour nous attarder encore sur ce court po\u00e8me de Leconte de Lisle intitul\u00e9 \u00ab L\u2019abeille \u00bb :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur le vert Hymette, \u00c9ros, un matin,
D\u00e9robait du miel \u00e0 la ruche attique,
Mais, voyant le Dieu faire son butin,
Une prompte abeille accourt et le pique.
L’enfant tout en pleurs, le dieu maladroit,
S’enfuit aussit\u00f4t, souffle sur son doigt,
Et jusqu’\u00e0 Kypris vole \u00e0 tire d’aile,
Oubliant son arc, rouge et courrouc\u00e9 :
– Ma m\u00e8re, un petit serpent m’a bless\u00e9
M\u00e9chamment dit-il, de sa dent cruelle.
Tel se plaint \u00c9ros, et Kypris en rit :
– Tu blesses aussi, mais nul n’en gu\u00e9rit !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le po\u00e8te parnassien est quelque peu pessimiste !<\/p>\n\n\n\n
